Enabling Vision Australia’s Digital Transformation:
A Strategic ICT Roadmap and System Replacements
Vision Australia (VA) is a leading provider of support services for individuals with low or no vision, offering a range of services through online and physical stores.
With a progressive team and growing demand for its services, VA needed to refine its ICT direction. Blue Bike Solutions was engaged to develop an updated technology roadmap, support key projects, and deliver solutions in business analysis, process analysis, product selection, and system integration to enhance VA’s service delivery.

The Challenge
Vision Australia’s growth had been organic over the past decade, leading to a need for a refined ICT strategy to support key projects. The organisation required updated technology solutions that could streamline their client management, fundraising, and library services, while ensuring future scalability and accessibility. This involved developing a clear technology roadmap, enhancing integration capabilities, and improving service delivery costs.
The Solution
Blue Bike Solutions worked closely with Vision Australia to revise their technology strategy and support key projects, employing a hybrid engagement approach across national sites.

Revising the Technology Roadmap
Blue Bike engaged with VA’s team to reset and align the ICT strategy with VA’s annual budgeting cycles, ensuring the roadmap supported organisational goals and growth.
Business Capability Modelling & Transformation Planning
Blue Bike supported transformation efforts by creating business capability models and high-level value chains to improve client outcomes and optimise service delivery costs.
Product Selection & Solutioning
Blue Bike facilitated product selection for key projects, including the Library and Fundraising system replacements, through RFP responses and collaborative solutioning.
Integration & Architecture Enhancements
Blue Bike led the design of a new Azure-based integration layer to replace the previous stack, improving operational costs and streamlining over 100 endpoints and 40 integrations.
Governance & Process Modelling
Blue Bike uplifted design and architecture governance by establishing a project design council, which evolved into a broader technology-wide forum to support decision-making across VA’s projects.
Blue Bike Outcomes
Through Blue Bike’s support, Vision Australia achieved significant improvements in its ICT strategy and operational capabilities:
Refined IT Strategy
A refreshed IT strategy that Vision Australia now uses as a method to guide future updates, aligning technology decisions with organisational goals.
Process Models for Accessibility
Defined process models that prioritise accessibility and allow for incremental expansion, ensuring long-term improvements to service delivery.
Enhanced Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture viewpoints were established to support decision-making from project triage through to delivery, enhancing VA’s overall strategic alignment.
Successful Project Deliveries
The Library Project was successfully deployed in October 2024, with an updated design and components including catalogue and text-to-speech features.
The Fundraising Project was delivered in September 2024, following a reset of its design, ensuring alignment with VA’s goals and improved delivery results
Improved Integration
The previous integration stack was replaced with an Azure-based solution, delivering cost savings and streamlining 100+ endpoints and 40 integrations, all delivered on time and within budget by October 2024.
Conclusion
Blue Bike’s strategic support empowered Vision Australia to refine its ICT direction, improve process efficiency, and implement scalable technology solutions to enhance its services. With a solidified roadmap, enhanced architecture, and successful project outcomes, VA is now better equipped to deliver its critical services for those with low or no vision.
